Women United for Economic Empowerment (WUEE) is a non-governmental, not for profit organization, with headquarter in Akwa Ibom State. WUEE became a reality through a program called ‘Planting the seed of Harvest’ to achieve self-sufficiency for women and to eliminate forced labour and violence against women and girls; with an initial grant to 139 women at Ediene Attai Community and122 widows in Minya Ntak. WUEE was established in March 20th 2002; with a mission to promote women/children’s rights, human development to the rural/urban poor women, youth, children and other vulnerable groups through empowerment programs, inclusive governance and economic development. WUEE has also conducted training and capacity strengthening for women, youths, men, people living with disabilities (PLWDs), to strengthen and promote inclusive, accountable and effective service delivery in democratic governance process in Akwa Ibom State; in a project titled: ‘Strengthening citizen’s engagement in electoral processes (SCEEP) project’ funded by Action Aid Nigeria, Currently, Women United for Economic Empowerment (WUEE) has implemented governance project, in partnership with United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) on a project titled; Strengthening good governance and democratic processes at local level in Nigeria. The project aimed at strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders, LGA Chairmen, Community leaders, women, youths, men, PLWDs by training 20,000 citizens on civic education; also engaging 20 CSOs as civic education multipliers and 54 LGA Chairmen in Akwa Ibom and Rivers State on democratic governance for accountability.
