MPOI is one of the leading research institutes in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa. Established in 1999 MPOI has conducted more than 35 commissioned national surveys, a total of 11 MPOI-initiated national surveys, 10 snap polls, several baseline surveys, more than 90 public seminars and more than 10 rounds of FGDs. Additionally, more than 45 dissemination meetings have been held since 1999, both in the capital city, Harare and in other towns, including Bulawayo. Other activities include 8 national conferences on topical issues of the day like climate change and 2 Expert Opinion Surveys. The Institute is a long-standing member of the Afrobarometer Network and shares the joint mission to make citizen voice a key pillar of Zimbabwe and African policy and decision-making. As a National Partner of Afrobarometer, MPOI has conducted 9 rounds of generic surveys and several rounds of country-specific surveys especially to gauge the pre-election public mood. MPOI's rigour in conducting research is recognised nationally, it is regarded as one of the very few organisations that consistently produces empirically based and reliable opinion studies. The important role of MPOI in the research sector is seen especially during the election period as citizens, government and civil society always wait with anticipation for opinion polls that the institute produces every election season.
